I captured this panorama of the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco at the end of March 2010 as part of a project to document San Francisco using mixed media. I captured gigapixel and 360 panoramas as well as audio. It has taken me much longer than anticipated to work on these images. This is meant to be viewed larger and complement other captures from San Francisco.

This was taken from the Steel bridge. I had to make several attempts to avoid the Street car trains, buses, cars, and bicycles disturbances to the Steel Bridge.

Portland from the east side boardwalk along the Willamete river at twilight. There is a really nice boardwalk that runs along the the core of the city on the Willamete river. A convenient place to cross is at the Hawthorne bridge and the Steel bridge. Many people ride their bicycles, run, and walk along this route.

I could see the sparks flying from welders working on the Broadway bridge as I set up to photograph it. I was hoping to capture some of these sparks to make the photograph more interesting, but they must have stopped welding during the capture. The city is continuing to build the rest of the street car loop and the Broadway bridge is at the northern part of the loop. This is a difficult bridge to capture well because it is difficult to find a clear view with the bridge at an angle.

I would like to return to Houston again. I may have difficulty tolerating the heat after living in Portland for so long, but the people were very friendly and made me feel welcome. This was taken from Sabine park which is my favorite park in Houston. I spoke to a few people who had just finished kayaking on the bayou and used the park for access to the water.

I had difficulty finding a place to begin my work on an ambitious personal project in San Francisco. This was the first day of a week dedicated to the project after a brief visit on another job in January. It just seemed difficult to find a place to start. I had grabbed a cup of coffee and was asking a person who was walking by if he had any thoughts about the best place to capture the transamerica pyramid. We spoke for a while and then I found out that his name is Stoney as well. I thought “Wow!, what are the odds of this occuring? Crazy.” He invited me to photograph the city from the roof where he lives. When I arrived I was pretty excited as it is a spectacular view. I had to focus on the capture during sunset and I spoke to his neighbors after I finished. I will have to grab a cup of coffee with the other Stoney when I return to one of my favorite cities.

This is one of the most difficult panoramas that I have ever captured. So low light is not really a big problem anymore, but lights that change every few seconds are a problem. I repetitively captured this scene and took regular photos during the rest of the time. That night I learned a lesson from carrying too much gear. I was so sore that I had trouble taking my socks off. OK, less camera gear next time. Thanks Ken.
